‘Definitely possible’ – Blackpool vs Portsmouth prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Blackpool vs Portsmouth prediction ahead of the League One clash on Saturday afternoon.

Blackpool head into this weekend’s clash with Portsmouth looking to maintain their play-off hopes with another win. The Tangerines sit 8th in the League One table as it stands, four points off the top six having played a game more than Stevenage in 6th.

Neil Critchley’s side have been held back by inconsistency this season but they have now won three of their last four League One games. The most recent triumph came away at Shrewsbury Town last weekend.

Portsmouth meanwhile are in a commanding position at the top of League One. Their nearest rivals have struggled to capitalise on games in hand and as a result, Pompey are six points clear in 1st.

John Mousinho and co are undefeated in nine, winning seven and drawing two in that impressive run. They’ve done so despite continued injury struggles too.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Portsmouth saw their unbeaten start to the season ended by Blackpool in comprehensive fashion back in November. The Tangerines will be looking for a repeat of that 4-0 thrashing, though I’m not sure they’ll get the three points this time.

“It’s definitely possible that the hosts get something from this though. They’ve maintained a good home record despite struggling to break into the play-offs, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this ended level.

“That said though, Pompey have such momentum behind them at the moment. Spirits are high and they just keep finding ways to win, even when faced with adversity.

“I’ll go for a 2-1 away win.”

Blackpool vs Portsmouth prediction: 1-2

Blackpool have won three out of their last four games so will be tough opponents for table toppers Portsmouth.

The Tangerines are also still well in the race for a play-off place so will be eager to win. They are currently sat in 9th place and are four points off the top six.

Pompey have an ability to grind out results and are on a roll under John Mousinho. They are unbeaten in their last nine league outings.

“This will be close but I think the visitors may just sneak it.”

Blackpool vs Portsmouth prediction: 0-1
