Comment: Hull City need to strike summer deal for Premier League striker, regardless of what league they are in

Hull City swooped to sign Liam Delap on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City last July and he was one of their first signings last summer.

His arrival at the MKM Stadium was met with a bit of scepticism among the Tigers’ fan base after he struggled to make an impact on loan at Stoke City and Preston North End in the last campaign.

However, Delap has since made a hugely positive impression in East Yorkshire and has scored seven Championship goals in 27 games.

He is currently out injured but is hoping to be back before the end of the campaign to help Liam Rosenior’s side get over the line and into the top six, as per HullLive.

Hull City need to bring Liam Delap back

If Delap had stayed fit and carried on his form, it would not have been a surprise to see him link up with a lower end Premier League side in the next transfer window. If anything, his injury may actually help Hull’s chances of getting him back.

It is still unlikely that he will break into Manchester City’s first-team next term so another temporary exit would seem pretty likely.

Pep Guardiola can trust him with the Tigers. He is guaranteed regular game time and benefits from playing every week, as opposed to going to another second tier team or someone abroad.

Hull should bring him back regardless of what league they are in as they chase down promotion to the top flight.

He fits in perfectly into the way Rosenior’s team play and his pace and power is a weapon that has used well in this campaign to help them keep up with the pace among the clubs around them.

They have missed him in attack in their last three matches. Birmingham City held them to a 1-1 draw last time out and the Tigers missed a lot of chances.

Rosenior is able to attract big-name players from the league above like Fabio Carvalho, Anass Zaroury, Jaden Philogene and Tyler Morton but landing Delap for a second stint would be up there with one of Acun Ilicali’s best transfer dealings if they were able to make it happen.

Hull are back in action this weekend at home to table toppers Leicester City.

Ozan Tufan started up front in Delap’s position last time out and managed to get on the scoresheet.
