‘We’ll see’ – EFL boss on chances of landing Lincoln City man this summer

Doncaster Rovers boss Grant McCann is tight-lipped on his side’s chances of a permanent move for Lincoln City loan man Hakeeb Adelakun this summer.

Doncaster Rovers swooped to land the winger on a temporary basis on a deal until the end of the season in the January transfer window.

Adelakun, 27, has since impressed with the Yorkshire club in League Two, scoring three goals and providing four assists in eight league games.

When asked whether he wants to sign him on a long-term basis, McCann said, as per a report by The Yorkshire Post: “We’ll see. These are conversations to have. But it’s not just as easy as the contract side of it. There’s a lot more that goes into it.”

Lincoln City man impressing at Doncaster Rovers

McCann’s decision to lure Adelakun to Doncaster earlier this winter was a masterstroke. He is a player who he knows well from having him on loan at Hull City during his time at the MKM Stadium.

The attacker’s game time at Lincoln dried up and his switch to Rovers has given him the opportunity to get some regular minutes again to boost his confidence.

A permanent move would make sense when his loan expires but there are a lot of factors to consider first.

Adelakun broke into the first-team picture at Scunthorpe United as a youngster before Bristol City snapped him up in 2018.

He played eight times for the Robins and had loan spells away at Rotherham United and Hull before Lincoln snapped him up in 2021.

The Londoner has scored seven goals in 57 matches for the Imps and also had a stint at Gillingham before rocking up at Doncaster.

His immediate focus will be on ending the current campaign on a high before heading back to his parent club.

Lincoln will then have a decision to make on what to do with him ahead of the next transfer window, with McCann not ruling out another swoop.
