‘Kept going’ – Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones hails pair after Cheltenham Town win

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has hailed Daniel Kanu and Tyreeq Bakinson after his side’s latest win.

Charlton Athletic won 3-1 away at Cheltenham Town last night to boost their League One survival hopes.

Both Kanu and Bakinson were on the scoresheet for the Addicks against the Robins, with striker Alfie May also finding the net against his former club.

Jones said after the game, as per the official club website: “Daniel Kanu was a threat all night, and he kept going. I’m pleased for Tyreeq [Bakinson] because we left Tyreeq out on the weekend and he’s come back in and scored.”

Charlton Athletic on a roll

Jones has made a great first impression at Charlton and his side have been in decent form since he took over from Michael Appleton.

The former Luton Town and Southampton boss has lost only once in his first seven games.

The Addicks have risen to 14th in the table and are now seven points above the drop zone with nine games left to play.

Kanu, 19, has been a revelation since Jones took over at The Valley and has been shown a lot of faith by his new manager.

The highly-rated teenager has a bright future ahead of him in the game and is enjoying plenty of game time at the moment in the third tier which will boost his development.

As for Bakinson, he has had to be patient since joining Charlton in January from Sheffield Wednesday. He was brought in to add more competition and depth to their midfield department.

His goal against Cheltenham should give him the confidence to kick on now and have a really strong end to the campaign.

The Addicks are back in action this weekend with a home clash against lowly Carlisle as they look to keep their momentum going to pull further away from the bottom four.
