Everton, West Ham among clubs keeping tabs on Middlesbrough defender

Middlesbrough talent Rav van den Berg has been watched by Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton in recent months, as per HITC.

Middlesbrough only recruited young defender van den Berg from PEC Zwolle last summer, but impressive performances have seen him catch the eye. Premier League sides Everton and West Ham are among those to have taken note of his talents.

The 19-year-old has played 31 times across all competitions this season, offering his services as a centre-back and right-back. He’s scored once in the process too, though his best efforts have only helped Boro to 14th in the Championship table in a challenging season for the club.

HITC reports that Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton have all taken the chance to watch over van den Berg in recent months.

Middlesbrough’s resolve could be tested in the summer transfer window as Premier League clubs weigh up offering him a quick move to the top-flight. He only moved to the Championship with Boro last summer but as a highly-rated talent, many have tipped him to play at a higher level sooner rather than later.

Drawing admiring glances

Having impressed at only 19, it’s not a surprise to see van den Berg drawing admiring glances from the Premier League. He’d made a decent impression in the Eredivisie with former club PEC Zwolle and after taking to Championship football so well, the youngster looks to be on a quick path to the top of the game.

Time will tell if Everton, West Ham or any of the clubs keen look to advance their interest this summer. However, with Boro poised to remain in the Championship again, it could be that some of their standout players are tempted away.

Van den Berg is under contract until 2027, so if Middlesbrough are to receive bids, they are in a strong negotiating position. You would fancy them to land a good fee in any sale of the Dutchman, and widescale interest in him could only increase the price tag.
