3 left-backs Coventry City should eye as summer transfer detail emerges

Coventry City are currently focused on their play-off push but those behind the scenes will also have an eye on the long-term.

Coventry City currently sit 8th in the Championship table, three points off the play-offs after a rampant return to winning ways against Rotherham United on Tuesday night. The Sky Blues had lost the two prior but emerged 5-0 winners at the CBS Arena.

Earlier in the day though, it was said by reporter Tom Collomosse that Jake Bidwell was facing an uncertain future with the club targeting a left-back signing in the summer transfer window.

With that in mind, here are three left-backs Coventry City should have their eyes on ahead of the summer…

Max Lowe – Sheffield United

26-year-old Lowe sees his contract with Premier League strugglers Sheffield United expire this summer and if he becomes a free agent, he could be a solid option at left-back. He’s also comfortable further up the pitch as a wing-back.

Lowe has Championship experience from his spells with the Blades, Derby County and Nottingham Forest. He has struggled with injuries before but if kept fit, he could be a good asset on the left.

Harrison Burrows – Peterborough United

Burrows has stood out in League One once again having become an out-and-out left-back after spells on the wing, at wing-back and in midfield. He has a thoroughly impressive eight goals and 12 assists in 45 games across all competitions this season, captaining Peterborough United on a number of occasions too.

There’s some question marks over his contract situation but regardless of when it ends, a 12-month extension option is included. Burrows would cost a fee, but Coventry City have shown before they’re willing to part ways with fairly sizeable sums for the right talent.

Thomas Ouwejan – FC Schalke

Last but not least is a more left-field option, but it’s a feasible one for Coventry City. They’ve dipped into the European market before and having signed Milan van Ewijk as one Dutch option on the right, left-back Ouwejan is a compatriot worth considering.

His deal with crisis club Schalke is up this summer and two goals and five assists in 19 2.Bundesliga games, he’ll likely have interest. The 27-year-old could be a great option on the left and his contract situation could see him join on a free transfer.
