Swindon Town man refuses to be drawn on long-term future with contract up in the summer

Swindon Town striker Charlie Austin is tight-lipped regarding his long-term future at the County Ground.

Swindon Town re-signed the forward in 2022 following his spell in Australia at Brisbane Roar.

Austin, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

He has provided this latest update regarding his situation, as per a report by the Swindon Advertiser: “Between my wife, I have had the conversations [about next year], but that is nothing to do with you guys, so we will have to wait and see. I have had the conversations, but you will have to wait and see.”

Swindon Town man on future

Austin is a useful player to have in and around the squad for Swindon. He is vastly experienced and has an eye for goal.

Since moving back to the Robins, he has scored 18 goals in 50 games, nine of which have come this season.

The Wiltshire club snapped him up as a youngster from Poole Town in non-league back in 2010 and he fired 37 goals in 65 outings during his first spell.

He then went on to have stints at Burnley, QPR, Southampton and West Brom and played in the Premier League before heading Down Under.

Austin found the net on four occasions in 11 outings for Brisbane Roar in the A-League before deciding to move back home.

Swindon will have to wait and see in regards to whether he decides to stick around for longer or take on a new challenge somewhere else in the next campaign.

The Robins are currently sat in 17th place in League Two and are comfortably in mid-table. They are back in action this weekend with a tricky away trip to Field Mill to take on league leaders Mansfield Town following their 1-1 draw with Harrogate Town last time out.
