‘Surprised’ – Norwich City reaction to 23-year-old’s Celtic success shared by reporter

Norwich City loanee Adam Idah’s form for Celtic has left those down at Carrow Road ‘surprised’, reporter Michael Gannon has said.

Norwich City sanctioned a January loan exit for striker Idah, allowing him to find more regular minutes away from Carrow Road. He had been regularly involved with the Canaries over the first half of the campaign, but with many of his outings coming as a substitute, it proved tough to have a meaningful impact.

The situation piqued Celtic’s interest, and they duly struck a loan deal. Since then, he’s found his feet north of the border and in turn, he’s shown the best form of his senior career.

Idah has five goals in seven games for the Scottish Premiership club, only one strike shy of the six he managed in 28 Championship outings before the loan move.

His form in Scotland has caught the eye, and it seems to have caught Norwich City off-guard too. Speaking on the RecordCeltic Podcast (quotes via Celts Are Here), Daily Record reporter Michael Gannon has said such success for Idah has left his parent club ‘surprised’. He said:

“I think Idah has grabbed his chance, big time.

“He’s surprised everybody. I mean people you speak to down at Norwich are also surprised that he started so well.”

Kicking on away from Carrow Road

Idah has been viewed as a bright talent for some time now but with over 100 Norwich City appearances to his name, he’s an established player at first-team level now. With that said, some may have hoped he would be able to lock down a starting spot with the Canaries.

17 goals and four assists in 115 appearances isn’t the most eye-catching total but many of Idah’s outings have been as a sub. Perhaps an eye-catching loan with Celtic as the starting striker can prove to those back at his parent club that he can be trusted with the starting spot up top for good in Norfolk.

Until then though, Idah will be determined to keep kicking on in Scotland. He’s managed to make the starting spot his own and with five goals in seven games, you’d fancy him to hold onto it if he can maintain this impressive form at the top of the pitch.
