Rotherham United dealt injury blow ahead of Coventry City clash

Rotherham United boss Leam Richardson has said Lee Peltier picked up an injury against Sheffield Wednesday last time out.

Rotherham United were beaten 1-0 by the Owls at home after Ike Ugbo’s goal.

They are back in Championship action this evening with an away trip to Coventry City but Peltier has emerged as a big doubt for the match.

Richardson has provided this latest injury update regarding the defender, as per a report by the Rotherham Advertiser: “Lee went down in the first half after a clash and I think (Ike) Ugbo landed on his ankle and tibia/fibula. He kept it moving at half-time and wanted to carry on. Then he went into another challenge and felt he didn’t have the power to push off. It’s disappointing.”

Peltier is an experienced player to have in the squad for Rotherham and Richardson will have a decision to make regarding who to bring into the side in his place if he is ruled out for tonight.

The 37-year-old was the captain against Sheffield Wednesday but went off just after half-time.

He has made 20 appearances in all competitions so far this season and has scored twice. His contract at the New York Stadium expires at the end of June and the Millers will need to decide whether to hand him a new deal or let him leave for nothing.

Peltier has played for the likes of Huddersfield Town, Leeds United, Cardiff City and Middlesbrough in the past and has been with his current club since 2022.

He helped them stay up last year but it appears very likely that Rotherham will be slipping back into League One in this campaign.

They are rock bottom of the table and are 19 points from safety with 11 games left to play.

The Millers have won just three matches all season and are lacking quality in their ranks. They face a Coventry side up next who have lost their last two on the spin.

Mark Robins’ men are 9th and are five points off the play-offs.
