Reporter delivers verdict on future of Sunderland man, deal expires this summer

Sunderland midfielder Bradley Dack is unlikely to remain at the Stadium of Light beyond the summer, with his current deal up in June, according to the Sunderland Echo’s James Copley.

Sunderland will need to regain their form if they are to stand any chance of getting into the Championship play-offs this season. But with each passing week, this looks to be slipping out of their grasp.

They could already have an eye on the summer window and those whose contracts are coming to an end, one of which is midfielder Dack.

Sunderland signed Dack on a one-year deal at the start of the season. But a familiar pattern emerged that has plagued the 30-year-old in recent years, with injury keeping him out of action for the majority of the campaign.

He has played just 13 times for the Black Cats in all competitions since making the switch from Blackburn Rovers. During that time he has scored one goal and registered one assist.

With his contract up in the summer he now is unlikely to be offered a new contract according to the Sunderland Echo. There is an option to extend his stay another year, but he will likely depart and become a free agent.

A solid option for any Championship side

If Dack can maintain his fitness he will be a great asset for any side plying their trade in the second tier. He can provide goals, assists and create plenty of chances at this level.

He proved his worth at Blackburn Rovers over a number of consecutive seasons and was hot property at one stage, but injuries have significantly hampered any consistency in his career of late.

The Black Cats did right by taking a gamble on Dack and someone will likely to do the same should he become a free agent in the summer. But where he ends up is anyone’s guess.
