Everton monitoring Hull City standout ahead of potential summer swoop

Hull City defender Jacob Greaves is attracting interest from Premier League side Everton, according to a report from The Mirror.

Hull City are eyeing a place in the play-offs for the first time since achieving promotion at Wembley in 2016. They currently sit in 6th place in the table with 11 games left to play.

One player who has been integral to their relative successes so far this season has been centre-back Greaves. The centre-back has played every single minute he has been available. He has missed just one game through suspension, after accumulating five yellow cards.

His form has seen him one of the hottest properties in the Championship. Everton are now the latest side to be linked according to a report from The Mirror. The Toffees are targeting Greaves as a replacement for Jarrad Branthwaite.

Speaking to BBC Humberside Sport, Tigers vice-chairman Tan Kesler recently spoke out about potential interest in the 23-year-old, claiming, “Jacob is our player. Whether there is an offer on the table or not, we don’t care. He is performing unbelievably. He should get offers, he should get interest. At the same time, I want boys to stay focused on the promotion run until the end of the season.”

Hull City need to keep him

As Kesler states, the player is on Hull City’s books as things stand has seriously impressed this season in their bid to secure a place in the top six. This summer their resolve will likely be tested somewhat.

But the Tigers need to stand firm in their valuation. Greaves can raise the quality of the players around him, is a natural leader and is probably Hull City’s best player at this present time.

Therefore, should a side from the Premier League come calling they will need to meet or exceed the Championship side’s asking price in order for them to part company with their star man. He could leave to challenge himself at the highest level, but ideally he will be playing for Hull City in the top flight himself next season after securing promotion.
