‘Absolutely love it here’ – Ipswich Town loan man quizzed on future after surprise switch

Ipswich Town loan man Lewis Travis is loving life at Portman Road but feels the outcome of the promotion push has no bearing on his future.

Ipswich Town raised eyebrows when they recruited midfielder Travis in January. It marked a good deal for the Tractor Boys, but many were surprised to see Blackburn Rovers let their captain and a first-team mainstay move to a Championship rival on loan.

Jon Dahl Tomasson – who was in charge at Ewood Park at the time – often leaned towards other options in the middle of the park, ultimately leading to the move being sanctioned.

Travis hasn’t necessarily been a regular at Portman Road though, mainly playing backup to Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo. Nevertheless, it’s clear that the 26-year-old has enjoyed his time in East Anglia.

As quoted by the EADT, Travis spoke highly of life with Ipswich Town when quizzed on his future. As a loan player with a contract at Blackburn Rovers, he stated he feels the outcome of Town’s promotion push may not have much of an impact on his future, adding he will have to wait and see what the summer holds.

“Whatever happens this season, it doesn’t really matter,” he said.

“Obviously I’m still contracted to Blackburn, which is a fantastic club, but we’ll have to see what the future holds.

“I absolutely love it here and I love Portman Road.”

Looking to the future

Time will tell just what the summer brings for Travis, with Blackburn Rovers sure to weigh up their options. The manager he fell out of favour under has moved on, and new boss John Eustace will surely want to take the chance to assess the club captain to see if he fits into his ways.

If not and another exit is sanctioned, Travis won’t be short of options. He’s a leader and an all-action midfielder with bags of Championship experience, which will have been of value to loan club Ipswich Town, even though he hasn’t found quite as much game time as he may have hoped for.

Given how much the Blackburn Rovers loanee has enjoyed his time at Portman Road, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was open to a permanent stay. Whether that feeling would be reciprocated by the Tractor Boys though, perhaps that will become clearer in good time.

For now though, Travis will be looking to play a part where he can as Ipswich Town fight for promotion. They sit 2nd in the Championship table, three points off faltering leaders Leicester City and two ahead of Leeds United.
