The72’s writers offer their Hull City vs Birmingham City prediction ahead of their Championship clash on Tuesday evening.

Hull City head into this midweek encounter following a 0-0 draw away from home against fellow play-off hopefuls Preston North End.

Liam Rosenior’s men made it five games unbeaten, but without a win in their last two, after a fairly even contest at Deepdale. The Tigers still occupy 6th spot in the table as a result, but are now only one point above Norwich City in 7th place.

Birmingham City travel to the MKM Stadium having lost a seven-goal thriller at home to Southampton on Saturday, ending the game with ten men and coming out on the wrong end of a 4-3 scoreline.

Koji Miyoshi, Jay Stansfield and Juninho Bacuna were amongst the goals for Birmingham, the latter striking after Dion Sanderson’s sending off, but a late injury time winner from Joe Aribo secured victory for the Saints after Adam Armstrong, David Brooks and Ché Adams had scored the previous three. The result left them 20th in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Hull will be desperate to return to winning ways after two draws in their last two outings, their spot in the top six is far from secure and they could do with another victory to strengthen their grip.

“They face a Birmingham outfit who will be bitterly disappointed following the fashion of their latest defeat, and they won’t shy away from taking their game to the Tigers.

“Rosenior’s side will feel confident that they can get the job done regardless, currently unbeaten in five heading into Tuesday’s fixture.

“I can see both sides finding the net in this encounter, but it is ultimately the hosts who I think will take the spoils.”

Hull City vs Birmingham City prediction: 2-1

James Ray

Hull City are in a good spot at the moment but after a couple of draws, they’ll be keen to get back to winning ways here. While they’ve been in strong form though, the Tigers’ home form is surprisingly underwhelming.

“If they’re to really strengthen their grip on a play-off spot, they need to turn the MKM Stadium into more a fortress. Otherwise, battling sides like Birmingham City will be hopeful of heading there and coming out with a result.

“The Blues are right in the middle of the relegation scrap and could really do with a win here. However, given their struggles on the road, I think they’ll come up short. I’m going for a Hull win.”
