‘In real danger’ – Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Sheffield Wednesday vs Plymouth Argyle prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Tuesday night.

Sheffield Wednesday come into their midweek clash with Plymouth Argyle looking to continue their fight against relegation from the Championship. Danny Rohl has led a fantastic turnaround at Hillsborough but the Owls remain three points away from safety and 23rd in the Championship table.

They made it three wins in a row last time out with a defeat over a League One-bound Rotherham United. Wednesday have now won four of the last five league games.

Plymouth Argyle meanwhile are up in 16th but only two points separates them and the relegation zone. They weren’t able to build on the Middlesbrough win, losing to Ipswich Town at the weekend.

The Pilgrims have won two of their last three on the road but face a tough task at Hillsborough amid their slide towards the relegation zone.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Sheffield Wednesday’s form of late has been the culmination of some really impressive work from Danny Rohl. They had embarked on an impressive turnaround but when they lost to Huddersfield Town, it looked to be a real blow.

“Since then though, they’ve grown stronger and tighter and now, survival is a real possibility. From Plymouth’s perspective, a strong first Championship season now could be undone.

“They’re really struggling and with the form of those below them, they’re in real danger now. I think their fears will deepen further here too.”

Sheffield Wednesday are in fine form and will fancy their chances of keeping their run of form going against Plymouth Argyle here.

Danny Rohl has done an outstanding job in charge of the Owls and has given them a fighting chance of staying up. At one point it looked like they were doomed.

The Pilgrims are in for a tough test at Hillsborough. Their opponents made some smart signings in January like Ike Ugbo and Ian Poveda and I think they’ll win again here.”
