Barnsley man extends loan spell away

Barnsley goalkeeper Kieran Flavell will remain at Bradford Park Avenue until the summer, as confirmed on their official club website.

Barnsley have let the stopper extend his stay with the Northern Premier League outfit until the summer of the season.

Flavell, 20, joined the non-league outfit at the end of January on an initial one-month deal to get some experience under his belt.

He has since impressed with the Yorkshire club and the Tykes have announced he will be staying there for longer.

Barnsley loan extension

Flavell’s temporary switch to Bradford Park Avenue has suited all parties involved and Barnsley will be pleased with his progress in the seventh tier.

The prospect is highly-rated by the League One promotion hopefuls and he was handed a contract extension in January running until the end of June, with the club holding an option of a further 12 months on top of that.

He has risen up through the academy ranks at Oakwell and has been a regular for the club at various youth levels.

The ex-England youth international suffered a knee injury back in 2020 but has since fought his way back.

Flavell has been on the bench for the Tykes’ first-team in the past and will be eager to continue getting regular minutes for his loan club to boost his development.

Barnsley are currently eyeing promotion to the Championship. Neill Collins’ side won 4-2 away at Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

They are sat in 4th in the table and are three points off the top two with games in hand on Portsmouth, Derby County and Bolton Wanderers. The Tykes face the latter next up.
