The72’s writers offer their Coventry City vs Rotherham United prediction ahead of their Championship clash on Tuesday evening.

Coventry City head into this midweek encounter following a disappointing loss on their travels against West Bromwich Albion, losing 2-1 despite a dominant performance.

First-half strikes from Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana put the Baggies two goals ahead, with what would turn out to be the hosts’ only shots on target, before Haji Wright halved the deficit from the penalty spot in the second half. The Sky Blues sit 9th in the Championship, now five points off the play-off spots.

Rotherham United also lost at the weekend, continuing their dismal run of form with a 1-0 defeat on home soil against fellow relegation threatened side Sheffield Wednesday.

The Millers were outperformed by the Owls, and eventually went behind thanks to Iké Ugbo’s 66th minute effort. It now looks extremely likely that Leam Richardson’s men are set for League One next season, rooted to bottom of the table and a daunting 19 points adrift of safety.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Coventry will feel frustrated with their drop-off in form as of late, losing to two of their direct rivals for the play-off spots, and falling down the pecking order in doing so.

“They deserved more than what they got against West Brom and a similar performance on any other day will have likely been rewarded.

“Their eyes will be lit up at the prospect of bouncing back on home soil against bottom of the pile Rotherham, and I expect them to do just that.

“I can’t see the Millers having what it takes to stop Coventry barring any major shock, so I’m predicting a comfortable home victory.”

Coventry City vs Rotherham United prediction: 3-1

James Ray

“This is an opportunity Coventry City can not afford to pass up. After doing so well to claw themselves back into the play-off fight, it would be a real shame if they were to slip away from the scrap now.

“Thankfully for the Sky Blues, they won’t get a better chance to secure three points. Rotherham United have shown they’re capable of some battling displays but ultimately, they come up short far too often, hence why they’re cut adrift and destined to drop to League One football.

“Coventry should be confident of getting back to winning ways and I think they’ll do just that. I’ll say they do so in fairly comfortable fashion too.”

Coventry City vs Rotherham United prediction: 2-0
