Swansea City to welcome ‘some bodies back’ for important Blackburn Rovers tie

Swansea City face Blackburn Rovers this afternoon and head coach Luke Williams has confirmed to the press that he will have some players back from injury.

Swansea City and Blackburn Rovers sit level on points in 16th and 17th in the table respectively. Both sides are just four points above the Championship relegation zone.

Therefore, with the pair facing off later today, it proves to be a tightly fought battle and a hugely important fixture in the grand scheme of things.

The Swans have had a number of players out in recent weeks and so this could be an excuse for their inconsistent form of late. But the likes of Azeem Abdulai, Harrison Ashby, Bashir Humphreys, Josh Key and Jamal Lowe have all returned to training this week.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, manager Williams confirmed the good news.

“We have got some bodies back. Josh Key is in full training and we are happy with that, although this weekend might be too soon for him,” he said.

“Harrison is training too and available for the weekend potentially. Bashir is fine, Azeem Abdulai was not quite ready for Sunderland but is available this weekend, and Jamal Lowe is fit too.

“The treatment room is less busy, it is an amazing effort from the medical team and the players in applying themselves to their rehab, that is the winning combination.”

A huge boost for Swansea City

To have potentially five players return back to the first-team fold after periods out at the same time will provide a huge boost to Swansea City’s hopes of survival, and of course, getting three points against Blackburn Rovers.

With a lot on the line today the Swans will need their best players fit and available. Equally their returns will help their consistency and to get results between now and the end of the season.

Swansea City vs Blackburn Rovers kicks off at 3pm today.
