Soumare, Kristiansen and more: What the summer could hold for Leicester City’s loaned out players

Leicester City look nailed on to secure promotion back to the Premier League, but will need to get back to form in order to maintain their hopes of lifting the league title.

Leicester City are 1st in the table as things stand, but having lost their last two games to Middlesbrough and fellow promotion hopefuls Leeds United, the Whites are now just six points behind them in 2nd.

The Foxes’ main objective will be getting into the Premier League, but they are likely to have one eye already on the summer transfer window, with incomings and outgoings aplenty expected.

With four first-team players out on loan, there could be big decisions made on their futures at the King Power. Here, we look at what the summer could hold for the quartet.

Boubakary Soumare

The holding midfielder joined Sevilla on loan for the season and has established himself as a first-team regular in La Liga. His loan contract has an option to buy for €15m, but his current loan side are looking to sign him for less if they can.

Should Leicester City get promoted then may want to keep Soumare given his exploits in one of Europe’s top divisions. But if Sevilla come close to the Foxes’ asking price he could be sold just as easily.

Victor Kristiansen

Another player out on loan in a top European league is defender Kristiansen. He initially struggled at Serie A side Bologna but has since rekindled his form.

Reports in Italy have confirmed that a permanent transfer to Bologna is increasingly likely ahead of the summer transfer window, and the player has publicly stated he has ‘no future’ at the King Power.

Luke Thomas

Thomas was loaned to Sheffield United in the summer, but returned to Leicester City in January before being loaned out to fellow Championship side Middlesbrough. However, he is yet to make himself a permanent fixture in the first-team fold on Teesside.

Leicestershire Live reporter Jordan Blackwell confirmed that Thomas is not out of contract in the summer as many have reported, yet he still could be on his way out of the club as he is down the pecking order as things stand.

Daniel Iversen

Iversen may have seemed a perfect fit for Leicester City’s Championship campaign, but he has found himself out of favour and now out on loan. He joined Stoke City in January and has started the majority of games since arriving.

With his contract up at the end of next season, Enzo Maresca’s side could cash in so to not lose him for free in June 2025.
