Stockport County man given green light to head out on loan

Stockport County youngster Cody Johnson has joined Scarborough Athletic on loan, as announced by their official club website.

Stockport County have let the prospect link up with the National League North side to get some more experience under his belt.

Johnson, 19, has made nine appearances in all competitions for the League Two promotion hopefuls so far this season, four of which have come in the league.

The Hatters have now confirmed that he has left Edgeley Park on a temporary basis running until the end of the campaign.

Stockport County loan exit

Johnson’s exit is a chance for him to get some senior game time to help boost his development before he returns to Stockport in the summer.

The Oldham-born man is highly-rated by Dave Challinor’s side and played five times for them as well before the start of this term.

He was loaned out for the first time to Banbury United last season in the sixth tier and played 20 matches for them.

Johnson then linked up with Rochdale last summer but was recalled early on during his stint at Spotland.

Stockport are currently eyeing promotion to League One after missing out in the play-off last year after losing to Carlisle United on penalties at Wembley.

They are 2nd in the table behind Mansfield Town and are three points above 4th place Wrexham with 12 fixtures left to play.

The Hatters’ form has slumped recently and they have won just once in their last six outings. Their last two have been 0-0 draws against Gillingham and Swindon Town.

Challinor’s men are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Colchester United as they look to return to winning ways.
