‘Need a big result’ – Swansea City vs Blackburn Rovers prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Swansea City vs Blackburn Rovers prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday afternoon.

Swansea City come into this weekend’s clash with Blackburn Rovers looking to get a much-needed winning run going. They picked up a valuable victory over Sunderland last time out, leaving them 17th in the Championship table.

The Swans have lost four in a row on home turf though, so a win could be key in helping Luke Williams gain some more backing from the fans.

Blackburn Rovers meanwhile are still looking for a first win under John Eustace. However, they’ve put in improved displays in their three straight Championship draws and fought valiantly against Newcastle United on Wednesday night before losing on penalties.

Rovers are just above the South Welsh outfit in 16th, level on 37 points and tied on -12 goal difference too.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This is an important game for both. Both sides are coming off strong performances that could really kickstart an upturn in form and both will know that three points could put some much-needed daylight between themselves and the relegation fight.

Swansea City have had a really tough time on their own turf though. You feel they need a big result at home to galvanise the fanbase.

“Blackburn will fight tooth and nail for a result and I would back them to win, but after going 120 minutes on Wednesday night, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is some tired and bruised bodies. For that reason, I say this ends level.”

Jacob Hackett

“This is a tough one to call. Swansea have won two of their last four, recording impressive away victories over Sunderland and Hull City and only losing to promotion hopefuls Ipswich Town and Leeds United.

“It seems that Luke Williams may slowly be getting somewhere with his side, so they will probably fancy their chances back on home soil this weekend.

“Blackburn have been a tough side to beat since the appointment of John Eustace, however, losing just one of the six games he has been at the helm for.

“Rovers’ last four have ended in draws. It seems a push to suggest they might make it five draws in a row, but that is what I’m predicting here.”
