Manager’s stance on Stoke City move outlined amid links

Tony Pulis is not ready to consider coming out of retirement amid reported interest from Stoke City, according to a report by HITC Sport.

Stoke City are said to be considering the future of current boss Steven Schumacher after slipping into the Championship relegation zone.

The Potters are sat in 22nd place in the table after losing 2-1 away at Cardiff City last time out and are inside the bottom three along with Yorkshire pair Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday with 12 games left of the season to play.

According to HITC Sport, they are eyeing a potential swoop for former boss Pulis as well as ex-Minnesota United man Adrian Heath as they weigh up Schumacher’s situation.

Stoke are at serious risk of slipping into League One if they don’t turn their fortunes around fast.

Schumacher’s move hasn’t worked out since he left fellow second tier side Plymouth Argyle to take over at the Bet365 Stadium from Alex Neil.

The Potters’ clash against Middlesbrough at home this weekend is a big one with pressure mounting on the Liverpudlian.

Pulis, 66, last managed Sheffield Wednesday in 2020 and could be seen by Stoke as someone to come in and keep them up. He has overseen over 1,000 games from the dugout and knows the club inside out having had two spells there in the past.

The Welshman has also had stints at AFC Bournemouth, Gillingham, Bristol City, Portsmouth, Plymouth Argyle, Crystal Palace, West Brom and Middlesbrough.

However, for now, he isn’t believed to be interested in returning to Staffordshire.

As for Heath, he has spent the last six years at Minnesota in MLS. The 63-year-old, who started his playing career with the Potters, has also been at Burnley, Sheffield United and Orlando City.
