‘I just leave that’ – Bristol City man shares position over contract situation, deal expiring in 2025

Bristol City forward Tommy Conway is leaving it to those around him to sort his contract situation to allow him to remain focused on his football.

Bristol City academy graduate Conway sees his current deal expire in the summer of 2025. It means there’s no dire need to resolve the matter before the end of this season, but an agreement would offer some clarity over the long-term.

The 21-year-old has now played 80 times for the Robins since coming through the youth ranks. In the process, he’s chipped in with 21 goals and five assists, with eight of those strikes coming this season.

Speaking on his contract situation, Conway has said to Bristol Live that he is leaving it to his representatives and family to hold talks over a new contract. He chooses to focus on on-pitch matters to avoid any distractions.

Explaining the matter, he said:

“During the season it’s not something I like to get involved in, I leave that to my representatives and my family.

“You can get easily distracted and caught up in all of that talk. I don’t want it to affect my football because that’s ultimately the most important thing. I leave that to everyone around me and I’m just fully focused on my football.

“I don’t really get involved in any of the convos, sometimes I don’t know what’s going on, I’m just fully focused on playing games. So I just leave that to the people behind the scenes and if anything comes of it then they’ll make me aware of it.”

Looking to the future

With Conway not involved in contract talks at this stage, it remains to be seen if his representatives and Bristol City come to an agreement before the campaign. If not, perhaps the Scotland U21 striker will become more involved in the matter once the season has ended.

The Taunton-born talent has a good amount of senior experience and goals to his name for a young player. While there have been struggles for consistency, it isn’t out of the question that interest could emerge if he enters the summer transfer window with only 12 months left on his deal.

A new agreement sooner rather than later would put the Championship club in a stronger position should interest arise. Moreover, it would be a good show of faith in Conway’s abilities and potential.
