The latest Derby County team news as Paul Warne’s side gear up to face Port Vale in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Derby County prepare to face Darren Moore’s Port Vale this weekend following two successive defeats, their last being on home soil against Charlton Athletic in League One during the week.

Derby County led through Eiran Cashin’s header just prior to half-time, but a second half capitulation saw Alfie May equalise from the penalty spot before Karoy Anderson scored an 80th-minute winner to condemn the Rams to a 2-1 defeat. Despite their loss, they remain 2nd in the League One table on goal difference.

The reverse fixture between Warne’s men and the Valiants saw the Rams walk away from Vale Park with all three points after a 1-0 win. Tyreece John-Jules scored the winner on the day, though he is now injured and won’t be facing Moore’s side on Saturday.

Derby County team news

Ryan Nyambe was substituted against the Addicks on Tuesday having appeared to pick up a knock. There has been no update as of yet regarding whether it will be enough to keep him out of the side.

Conor Washington had been back in training but has since joined John-Jules back on the treatment table for the foreseeable. Jake Rooney is also in that position.

Conor Hourihane and Callum Elder missed the last match after picking up knocks, the severity of which are so far unknown. As a result, they remain doubtful.

Craig Forsyth remains out with a calf injury and James Collins is likely to be out for an extended spell. Corey Blackett-Taylor and Martyn Waghorn returned from their injuries to make cameos against Charlton last time out.

Josh Vickers missed out on the last squad, but Warne has said he could play if absolutely necessary, so there is a chance he returns against Port Vale.

Having struggled reverting back to four in defence against Charlton Athletic, it would not be a surprise to see Warne opt for the 3-5-2 formation again against the Valiants.

Should Elder miss out again, Louie Sibley may get the nod at left-wing-back with Kane Wilson on the opposite side. Max Bird and Ebou Adams should be nailed on to retain their spots in midfield, while Korey Smith will likely keep his spot if Hourihane is not fit enough to start.

The two up top will consist of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Dwight Gayle with the latter searching for his first goal in Derby County colours since signing as a free agent last month.
