‘Could play into their hands’ – Plymouth Argyle vs Ipswich Town prediction: The72

The72’s writers offer their Plymouth Argyle vs Ipswich Town prediction ahead of the Championship clash on Saturday afternoon.

Plymouth Argyle come into this weekend’s clash with last season’s title rivals Ipswich Town looking to put a strong run of form together. After four Championship games without a win, the Pilgrims defeated Middlesbrough away from home last weekend.

Ian Foster’s side sit 15th in the Championship table as a result. However, they’re still only five points away from the drop zone as those battling relegation start to pick up valuable wins.

Ipswich Town meanwhile have been back to their dangerous best. After a tough run of form, they’ve now won four on the bounce in the league.

Kieran McKenna and co are right back in the thick of it in the automatic promotion fight as a result. With 12 games left to play, the Tractor Boys are level on points with 2nd placed Leeds United and six away from leaders Leicester City.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

“This should be a good game. Plymouth Argyle picked up a great win last time out and that should instil them with some confidence coming into a tough tie. Their home record isn’t what it was a few months ago though, offering hope for the visitors.

Ipswich Town have been brilliant of late too. They’re without some key players in Wes Burns and Nathan Broadhead, but I think starts for the likes of Omari Hutchinson and Jeremy Sarmiento could play into their hands.

“I’m going for a valuable away win, perhaps pushing Argyle closer to the relegation zone in the process.”

Jacob Hackett

“The reunion of last season’s League One promotion rivals, this one looks set to be a fascinating encounter.

“Plymouth were able to put their poor run of form behind them following their victory at the Riverside last weekend, but they will have to be at their very best to avoid defeat against Ipswich.

“McKenna’s side have continued to defy the odds this season in their search for back-to-back promotions and they will feel confident of making it five wins in a row this weekend.

“I see both sides scoring at Home Park, but ultimately it is hard to bet against the Tractor Boys with the current form they are in.”
