The72’s writers offer their Bolton Wanderers vs Cambridge United prediction ahead of their League One clash on Saturday afternoon.

Bolton Wanderers return to the Toughsheet Community Stadium this weekend after three successive away games, their last encounter being a 1-0 loss against Wigan Athletic.

Ian Evatt’s men once again missed their chance to leapfrog Derby County and jump back into 2nd place in the League One table as Stephen Humphrys’ second-half strike condemned them to defeat on their travels. They remain 3rd, level on points with the Rams but behind on goal difference.

Cambridge United head into the fixture on Saturday having also lost their last fixture 1-0 away from home. Steve Evans’ Stevenage were the side that toppled them during midweek.

Jordan Roberts put the Boro ahead in the first half with the U’s unable to find their way back into the match despite their best efforts. They remained 16th in the League One standings as a result.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

Jacob Hackett

“Although Bolton’s form might have taken a dip recently, they are still comfortably one of the better sides in the league and back on home soil you would expect them to be more successful.

“Barry Corr is doing the best job he can as caretaker head coach following Neil Harris’ departure and subsequent return to Millwall, but it is difficult to see him orchestrating his side to victory away from home against Evatt’s men.

“Wanderers need to return to form if they are to regain their position in the automatic promotion spots, and I think they will do just that on Saturday.

“I am going for a comfortable home win.”

Bolton Wanderers will be glad to be back on their own patch this weekend. They’ve struggled in this streak of away games and if they’re to remain in the hunt for 2nd, they have to avoid another slip up here.

“Cambridge could prove to be tricky customers though. While they’re struggling for form, they have shown an ability to grind out results, so they could pounce on the hosts’ blip.

“That said though, I do see the hosts getting back to winning ways this weekend. I’ll go for a 2-0 home win.”
