‘Really good footballer’ – 10-goal Norwich City ace hailed by manager

Charlotte FC boss Dean Smith has tipped Norwich City striker Josh Sargent to return to the Premier League.

The former Canaries’ manager now finds himself in the MLS and won his first game in charge 1-0 at home to New York City.

Sargent, 24, worked under Smith at Carrow Road a couple of years and continues to play his football in East Anglia.

Smith has said, as per the official Charlotte FC website: “He can go and play in the EPL again, that’s for sure. He doesn’t have a ceiling at the moment. Unfortunately, he’s had a couple injuries, but he’s just come back now and scoring goals again in the championship with Norwich.

“He’s actually really mature for someone so young… he’s a really good footballer with a good head on his shoulders. He’ll keep getting better If he can stay injury free. I think he will be a certainty in the U.S. National Team.”

Norwich City man can return to the top flight

Norwich are currently 7th in the Championship table and are outside the play-offs by three points.

Sargent, who is a USA international with 23 caps under his belt so far in his career, joined them back in 2021.

He has since made 87 appearances for the Canaries in all competitions and has scored 27 goals, 10 of which have come in this campaign.

It was a tough first year for him in England when Norwich were relegated from the top flight. However, he has found his feet in the second tier over recent times. His contract expires in the summer of 2028.

Sargent started out at Werder Bremen after moving over to Europe as a youngster and broke into their first-team as a youngster before going on to fire 15 goals in 81 matches.

Norwich are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Sunderland as they look to keep their momentum going. They face a Black Cats side who are now without key man Jack Clarke due to injury.

David Wagner’s men drew 1-1 away at Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park last time out.
