Out-of-favour Stoke City pair saw January exit deals collapse

Stoke City forwards Ryan Mmaee and Wesley both saw January moves to Turkey fall through, a report from The Telegraph has highlighted.

Stoke City saw a massive overhaul of their playing squad last summer and unfortunately, it has had far from the intended outcome. The vast majority of the new additions have struggled and the Potters are now in the Championship relegation zone as a result of a dismal decline.

Strikers Mmaee and Wesley were among the new signings, and neither have had the impact hoped. Moroccan international Mmaee has four goals and three assists in 23 games but is currently out of the first-team picture after failing to meet Steven Schumacher’s code of conduct demands.

Wesley meanwhile hasn’t started in the Championship since September with his 23 outings not yielding a single goal.

Now, The Telegraph has highlighted that both were lined up for moves to Turkey in January. Both had travelled for talks, but the moves fell through and ultimately remained with Stoke City, it is said.

A long way back

It feels as though Mmaee and Wesley have a lot of work to do over the final stages of the season to get back into the side. The former has shown bright moments after his highly-anticipated arrival but with Schumacher clearly not a fan of his conduct, he could have a lot to do to get back into the first-team fold at Stoke City.

As for the latter, a return of no goals in 23 games speaks for itself. Wesley has struggled to have an impact at Championship level and given the need for goals, it’s hard to see Schumacher turning to him at such an important point of the season.

Regardless of who is on the pitch though, the Potters must get results soon. The form of QPR has seen them slip into the bottom three and with Sheffield Wednesday on the up, it’s not out of the question that the former Premier League club are dragged deeper into the drop zone and ultimately, down to League One.
