Mansfield Town ace reacts to new deal ahead of Newport County trip

Mansfield Town ace Louis Reed has said he is ‘really pleased’ to have signed a new deal.

Mansfield Town have tied down the midfielder to a fresh contract running until the summer of 2025.

Reed, 26, has helped the Stags rise to the top of the League Two table above the likes of Stockport County, Crewe Alexandra and Wrexham.

He has said, as per the official club website: “I’m really pleased to have extended my contract.

“When I first signed here, I was looking forward to what I could achieve at the club.

“We narrowly missed out on the play-offs in the previous season but we’re in a really good spot right now and are playing some exciting football. It’s a pleasure to be here.”

Mansfield Town boost

Reed is a key player for Mansfield in the middle of the park and keeping hold of him is a big boost as they chase down promotion to League One.

His previous deal was due to expire at the end of this season and he would have become a free agent.

The Barnsley-born man has made 37 appearances in all competitions so far in this campaign, 32 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with two goals and two assists.

Reed started his career at Sheffield United and went on to play 59 times for the Blades as a youngster, as well as having a loan spell away at Chesterfield to get some experience.

He left Bramall Lane on a permanent basis in 2018 for Peterborough and was a regular during his first two seasons at London Road but his game time dried up.

Swindon Town then came calling before his switch to Mansfield.

The ex-England youth international has made Field Mill his home and has now committed his future to Nigel Clough’s side.

Mansfield are back in action this weekend with an away trip to Notts County as they look to keep their momentum going.
