Leeds United kept hold of prospect in January amid interest from elsewhere

Leeds United youngster Archie Gray was on OGC Nice’s radar in the January transfer window, reports Mike McGrath.

Leeds United managed to keep hold of the highly-rated teenager this winter despite interest from France.

Gray, 17, has broken into the Whites’ first-team this season in the Championship under the guidance of Daniel Farke.

As per The Telegraph reporter McGrath on X, Nice considered a swoop for him but he was out of their price range.

Leeds United man was eyed

Gray is under contract at Leeds until the summer of 2028 meaning they are under no pressure to cash in on him anytime soon. Attention from elsewhere is inevitable in the future though based on his performances so far in this campaign.

He has made 37 appearances already this term despite his tender age, 32 of which have come in the league. The prospect has chipped in with a single goal and two assists.

The Durham-born man’s favoured position is central midfield but he has proved he is also capable of playing at right-back if needed.

Gray rose up through the academy ranks of the Whites and was a regular for them at various youth levels. The England youth international has a very bright future ahead of him in the game.

Leeds were knocked out of the FA Cup last night by Chelsea 3-2. Farke’s side can now fully focus on the league as they look to claw themselves back into the Premier League.

They are 2nd in the table behind Leicester City and are level on points with Ipswich Town, with Southampton now five points behind.

The Whites are back in action with an away trip to Huddersfield Town this weekend.
