Key Ipswich Town duo set to miss Plymouth Argyle test, McKenna confirms

Ipswich Town will be without wingers Nathan Broadhead and Wes Burns for this weekend’s game against Plymouth Argyle, Kieran McKenna has said.

Ipswich Town widemen Broadhead and Burns have been key to their success in the Championship. After helping the Tractor Boys rise from League One, the wingers have been McKenna’s go-to men on the wings more often than not.

Broadhead has notched 11 goals and four assists in 33 games across all competitions this season, while Wales teammate Burns has five goals and two assists in 32 outings.

However, neither will be adding to their tally when Ipswich Town face Plymouth Argyle this weekend.

Speaking to the media ahead of the game, Town boss McKenna has confirmed that both Welsh wingers have suffered muscle strains. As a result, neither will be available for the trip to Home Park, in which they look to make it five wins in a row in the league.

In their absence

While Broadhead and Burns’ absences are a blow for Ipswich Town, they’re blessed with some other talents out wide who can take their place. Omari Hutchinson has been in fantastic form of late and should relish the chance to come into McKenna’s starting XI.

Marcus Harness and Jeremy Sarmiento will also be battling for a place in the side, so it will be intriguing to see who gets the nod.

The replacements mean that – hopefully at least – Broadhead and Burns won’t be missed too much. Nonetheless, it will be hoped neither are facing too long on the sidelines. Both have key roles to play as Ipswich Town fight for promotion to the Premier League and will be missed greatly if cast out for extended spells.

Ipswich Town sit 3rd in the Championship table as it stands. They’re level on points with 2nd placed Ipswich Town and six points away from leaders Leicester City with 12 games remaining.
