‘So much quality’ – EFL boss hails January recruit from Leeds United

Swindon Town’s interim boss Gavin Gunning has heaped praise on Sean McGurk following his January arrival from Leeds United.

Swindon Town swooped to land the winger from the Whites earlier this winter on a permanent basis.

McGurk, 20, was allowed to leave Elland Road and scored last night as the Robins beat Tranmere Rovers 3-1 in League Two.

Gunning has been impressed with what he has seen from the player since his switch and has said, as per a report by BBC Sport:“He’s got so much to learn but so much quality. I think he’s going to be a big coup for the club – anybody who has seen him play – and he’s still not fit, that’s the thing.

“The scary thing is going to be when we get him fit because he’s still nowhere near fit enough to where he wants to be. When he gets fit he’s going to be a proper problem.”

Swindon will be hoping that they can get the best out of McGurk between now and the end of the season as they look to rise up the table.

He has made four appearances for the Robins since his move to Wiltshire and has now chipped in with two goals.

The youngster was on the books at Liverpool and Wigan Athletic before Leeds snapped him up in 2021.

McGurk went on to play 48 times for the Whites’ Under-21’s, scoring 10 goals and picking up seven assists. The Liverpudlian didn’t make a senior appearance for the Yorkshire outfit though.

Swindon have provided him with a new permanent home and he has caught the eye so far.

It has been a disappointing campaign for the Robins but their latest victory over Tranmere should give them confidence.

They are sat in 17th place and have 11 games left to play of the campaign. Next up is a home clash against Harrogate Town this weekend.
