‘I’m happy’ – Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca praises summer signing after Bournemouth win

Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca has said he is ‘happy’ for Abdul Fatawu after his goal against AFC Bournemouth in the FA Cup last night.

Leicester City are through to the quarter-final after beating the Cherries 1-0 at the Vitality Stadium.

Fatawu, 19, scored a beauty for the Championship promotion chasers in extra-time. The Foxes won the competition back in 2021.

Maresca was pleased for his winger and said after the game, as per a report by LeicestershireLive“He had to shoot 25 times before this goal! The other 24, most of them were in the stands! Hopefully we don’t need to wait 25 shots again from him!

“But the goal was very good. I’m happy for Abdul. He’s a young player who needs to improve many things but we are quite happy with him.”

Leicester City man praised

Leicester swooped to land Fatawu on loan last summer from Sporting Lisbon following their relegation from the top flight.

He has since provided them with more competition and depth in attacking areas and has made 28 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with three goals.

The Ghana international, who has 15 caps under his belt so far in his career, is still quite raw so will take a lot of confidence from his goal against Bournemouth.

He has been on the books at Sporting Lisbon since they signed him from Steadfast FC in his native country back in 2022.

Fatawu has since played 12 times for his parent club and was allowed to join the Foxes to get some regular game time under his belt.

Leicester are back in league action this weekend with a clash against a QPR side who are fighting for their lives at the bottom end of the table. However, the Hoops head to the King Power Stadium in good spirits after back-to-back wins against Bristol City and Rotherham United.

Maresca’s men were beaten 3-1 away at Leeds United last Friday.
