The latest Southampton team news as Russell Martin’s side gear up to face Liverpool in the FA Cup this evening.

Southampton face the tough task of travelling to Anfield tonight following a disappointing defeat at home against Millwall in their last Championship bout.

Southampton lost 2-1 at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday afternoon, staying 4th in the Championship table as the gap between themselves and the automatic promotion spots grew to five points. Japhet Tanganga pounced to head the Lions in front, Che Adams then equalised for the Saints but Zian Flemming’s penalty on the stroke of half-time was enough to secure three points for the visitors.

The last time these two sides met was in Premier League action last season, a thrilling encounter which ended 4-4 on the final day of the season. The Saints led 4-2 with less than 20 minutes to go, but Liverpool hit back to earn a point in Hampshire.

Martin confirmed will be without Newcastle United loanee Ryan Fraser following the injury he sustained against Millwall, with the Scotsman set to be out until after the next international break according to the Saints boss.

It is both a blow for Southampton and Fraser who now joins Flynn Downes, Ross Stewart and Juan Larios on the treatment table.

There are no other fresh injury concerns for Martin’s side besides the Scotland international, so the Saints will likely field a strong outfit against this season’s Carabao Cup winners.
