Chelsea vs Leeds United: 5 players who could dictate the game tonight

Chelsea vs Leeds United takes place at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup tonight.

Leeds United will be backed by a vocal away end when they travel to West London for their FA Cup clash with Chelsea.

The Whites are on a hot streak of form at present in the Championship. For the first time in over 100 years, Daniel Farke’s side have won nine league games on the spin. It is form that has driven them to 2nd in the Championship table.

All that will count for nothing when they go head-to-head with Mauricio Pochettino’s star-laden Chelsea side.

Whilst Leeds United are flying in the Championship and chopping away at Leicester City’s lead, Chelsea are not as fortunate. Inconsistency from the Blues sees the Londoners 10th in the Premier League table and 12 points away from the European places.

Here, we look at five players who could dictate the Chelsea vs Leeds United FA Cup tie…

Georginio Rutter

£35m record buy Rutter has proven too much for many Championship sides to handle. His drive and low centre of gravity means that he is often hard to shift off the ball and his eye for a pass makes him a danger for any side.

If Chelsea do not close him down fast enough, then the Frenchman will cause them a lot of problem. He has six goals and 12 assists to his name and a lot of Leeds’ best work flows through him. There is a doubt over his fitness though, so he could be absent from the side.

Cole Palmer

Ex-Manchester City youngster Palmer has been in sparkling form in the Premier League for Chelsea. The 21-year-old attacker has 10 goals and six assists this season, topping the ranks in both categories for the Blues.

He will relish playing in the FA Cup and pitting his skills against a Champonship side such as Leeds United. Palmer will be a handful for the Whites’ midfield duo of Glen Kamara and Ilia Gruev to contain.

Crysencio Summerville

Still only 22, Dutchman Summerville is a star in the making. He is having a storming season for Leeds United in the second-tier with 15 goals and eight assists. Blessed with pace to spare, he likes to run at and beyond opposition defenders.

Either inside or outside the area, Summerville is a danger that the Chelsea defenders, especially the right-sided ones, need to be aware of. Like Rutter though, there is a question mark over his fitness after rolling his ankle.

Who is this?

Enzo Fernandez

23-year-old World Cup winner Fernandez will be key for the Blues in the midfield engine room. He arrived from Benfica a year ago, costing a British record £106m.

He will see a lot of ball come via him as the Blues look to outwork Leeds’ press and link attacks together. The visitors’ midfield and central defenders will need to be on top of their game on Wednesday evening.

Ethan Ampadu

It is a quick return to Stamford Bridge for former Blues youngster Amapdu, who signed for Chelsea in 2016 from Exeter City. He arrived at Leeds United only last summer as their marquee buy of the transfer window.

At first he helped anchor the Whites midfield, before moving back and performing well at centre-back with Pascal Struijk injured. Whilst he has coped more than admirably with Championship attackers, he will have his work cut out with Chelsea’s attacking players.
