Sunderland eyeing loan

A loan exit would help Richardson get some regular minutes to help boost his development and get some experience.

His chances of breaking into Sunderland’s first-team right now are very slim with Anthony Patterson and Nathan Bishop ahead of him in the pecking order at the Stadium of Light.

He will only be able to join a team in the National League or under following the end of the January transfer window.

Richardson had a spell at Guiseley last term in the Northern Premier League.

The stopper has been on the books at Sunderland for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks.

He has been a regular for the North East outfit at various youth levels over recent years but is yet to play for their senior team. The former England youth international has made eight appearances for their Under-21’s side to date.

Sunderland were beaten 2-1 at home by Swansea City last time out and have seen their form slump recently. Mike Dodds has taken over from Michael Beale until the end of this campaign.

The Black Cats are now 10th in the table and are eight points off the play-offs. They have 12 games left to play, starting with Norwich City away this weekend.
