‘I want to see that through’ – Danny Rohl makes statement over Sheffield Wednesday future

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has spoken said he wants to see through the ongoing progression with the Owls amid a question over his future.

Sheffield Wednesday replaced Xisco Munoz with Danny Rohl in October and since then, the German has overseen an impressive turnaround at Hillsborough.

The Owls remain in the Championship relegation zone but nine wins from 23 league games has them in with a shot at survival. The club currently sit 23rd in the Championship table, but they’re now only three points away from safety.

Rohl’s success in his first senior management role with Sheffield Wednesday has seen many tip him for a future at the top. The Owls are a club in a pretty dismal situation but the German boss has been a revelation in S6.

Now, the 34-year-old has opened up on his future, making some intriguing comments.

Speaking with Kicker (as relayed by reporter Dom Howson), Rohl highlighted ‘adjustments’ that need to be made for the summer, spoke of his happiness in the role with Sheffield Wednesday and expressed a desire to see things through amid such progression at Hillsborough.

“The right adjustments need to be made in the summer, with 20 contracts expiring. A lot has to be done right when putting together the squad. With its history and tradition, it is a very special club.”

He later said:

“After around 10 years in other roles, I’m currently very happy to now be head coach in the English version, i.e. with managerial duties. This task gives me great fulfilment. I go to work every day with a smile on my face.

“I go to work every day with a smile on my face, despite the challenging situation in the league table. At the moment, I’m concentrating fully on the current season until May 5 so that it ends the way we want it to.”

Lastly, Rohl said this of his future:

“We’ll sit down together and assess the situation but I feel we are making progress and I want to see that through.”

Encouraging comments?

Sheffield Wednesday fans will hold hope of retaining Rohl’s services for some time yet. There are many who believe he’s destined for a higher level though, and if the club were to drop into League One, you would think it would be hard to hold onto such a talented young manager.

Nonetheless, Rohl’s comments regarding the future and the summer transfer window show he has his eyes on the long-term at Hillsborough, and not just the immediate aim of staying in the Championship. It makes for encouraging reading for supporters, who are adoring of their boss and the job he has done in recent months.

Time will tell just how Rohl’s future and the relegation fight pan out. However, it’s clear to see that the Zwickau-born boss is thriving in the challenge at Sheffield Wednesday, and his commitment to the task and close bond with supporters is more than evident.
