‘A few question marks’ – Concerns emerge over key Leeds United trio ahead of Chelsea tie

Leeds United boss Daniel Farke has confirmed injury concerns regarding attackers Patrick Bamford, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter ahead of the clash with Chelsea.

Leeds United head into their midweek FA Cup clash with Chelsea on a massive high. They’ve won 11 of their last 12 games across all competitions and are still unbeaten in 2024 after coming from behind to beat Leicester City on Friday night.

As a result, they remain 2nd in the Championship table and are now only six points behind the Foxes at the top of the division.

The trip to Stamford Bridge presents a tough test, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side are fresh off the back of an extra-time defeat to Liverpool in the EFL Cup final. Despite the gap between the Championship and Premier League, it could give the Whites hope of an upset.

However, in a blow to Farke and co, doubts over key players have emerged ahead of the Wednesday night tie.

Speaking to the press pre-game (as relayed by reporter Phil Hay), the Leeds United boss revealed doubts over the fitness of key attackers Bamford, Summerville and Rutter. Dan James also has a ‘little bruise’, but he is in contention.

Who is this?

Fingers crossed

While a strong team will be needed against Chelsea and the chance to challenge for an FA Cup quarter-final is a tough one to pass up, Leeds United have to be smart here. Championship promotion is the absolute priority, and they need their key players for the run-in.

Farke has other players to call upon while Bamford, Summerville and Rutter can be rested. Risking them in a tough cup game could be an unnecessary move when there are suitable replacements to come in for all three if needs be.

Avoiding serious injury is an absolute must so even if the aforementioned trio have a chance of being involved, it would be wise to lean on the side of caution by taking them out of danger and resting them for this cup clash.
