Bolton Wanderers boss issues concerning update on ‘nasty injury’ to West Brom loanee

Bolton Wanderers boss Ian Evatt has said West Brom loanee Caleb Taylor may have suffered a ‘nasty injury’ in the Cambridge United triumph.

West Brom sent young defender Taylor out on loan in January, with League One promotion hopefuls Bolton Wanderers bringing him in. The Trotters had picked up concerns over Ricardo Santos and Eoin Toal at the time, meaning they needed reinforcements at the back.

It was the 21-year-old who joined after spending much of the campaign on the bench for the Baggies. Taylor has performed well for Evatt’s side, with his fourth appearance coming away to Cambridge United last night.

However, the West Brom loanee was forced off in the latter stages of the first half, and an early update will have supporters of both clubs concerned.

As quoted by The Bolton News, Bolton Wanderers boss Evatt stated it looks like a ‘nasty injury’, potentially to his ankle ligaments. They will now wait to see how it settles before a more detailed assessment. He said:

“I don’t know how it wasn’t a free kick at the very least, there were some baffling decisions again.

“It is a nasty injury. He has a really swollen ankle at the moment and it could be ligament damage but we will have to see how it settles.”

Another blow for Bolton?

Bolton Wanderers have had a tough time with injuries this season and especially so recently. The backline has been heavily affected, hence why Taylor was signed in January in the first place.

Evatt and co will be hoping that there is no damage done to the West Brom loanee once the swelling has come down. Until then though, it’ll be a nervous wait to see if he’s facing a spell on the sidelines.

There are versatile defenders such as Jack Iredale and Gethin Jones who have been able to slot in but it’s another headache for Evatt. Will Forrester may well come back into the side while Ricardo Santos is also progressing, and his return will prove a massive boost.
