‘Minimal influence’, ‘5/10’ – Rooney system made this Birmingham City man a passenger in Hull City defeat

Birmingham City lost 2-0 at home to Hull City in the Championship last night.

Birmingham City went into their first home game under new boss Wayne Rooney last night, and hopes were high that he’d be able to deliver a win in his St Andrew’s debut.

But against his former Derby County understudy Liam Rosenior, Blues succumbed to a disappointing 2-0 defeat, with the Tigers scoring either side of half time.

Rooney has now lost his first two games in charge of Birmingham City, whereas John Eustace oversaw a couple of wins in his last two games at the helm.

The club have slipped down into 12th place of the Championship table after Rooney took charge with Blues in 6th.

It was a poor overall performance last night with some of the players seemingly trying to get to grips with this new system that Rooney is implementing.

And one player who watched most of the game pass him by was Koji Miyoshi. Birmingham Live rated his performance as a 5/10, with journalist Alex Dicken adding:

“Miyoshi was half a number eight and half a number 10, he didn’t quite seem to know which most of the time. We saw glimpses of his undeniable talent, such as the trademark dummy which gave Bacuna a sight of goal, but he had minimal influence on the match.”

Who is the current manager of Leicester City?

Rooney’s start at Birmingham City…

It’s been tough so far. Rooney was brought in to make changes, and he’s doing that, but it’s taking some time for these players to get used to those changes.

Miyoshi was becoming a really key player under Eustace who was playing him behind the striker. But like Dicken points out above; Miyoshi’s role under Rooney isn’t that clear, and he’s not having the same effect.

There’s a few like Miyoshi who Rooney doesn’t appear to be getting the most out of, but with time, the 26-year-old could prevail under the new boss.

Birmingham City face Southampton this weekend.
