The72’s writers offer their Reading vs Portsmouth prediction ahead of the League One clash on Saturday afternoon.
Reading are on a concerning run of form at the moment. They’ve lost four consecutive League One games, leaving them 23rd.
The Royals’ ownership problems have hampered them on the pitch for too long and while they’ve picked up some decent results along the way, they’d still be in the bottom four even if they weren’t given a four-point deduction for breaching EFL regulations.
As for Portsmouth, their winning run was halted with a goalless draw at Cambridge United in the week. However, John Mousinho’s still sit at the top of the League One table as the only undefeated team left in the division.
Pompey haven’t lost a third-tier game since March and with Reading struggling, they’ll be hopeful of a win here.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“You can’t help but feel it goes from bad to worse for Reading here. They’ve got no wind in their sails while Portsmouth are riding a fantastic unbeaten run.
“The Royals have found success at home but with a team as strong as Pompey coming to town, I don’t think Selles and co will be able to take anything from this one.
“I’ll go for a 2-0 win for the visitors, further condemning Reading’s misery while continuing their impressive form.”
Reading vs Portsmouth prediction: 0-2
Harry Mail
“Reading are in trouble and face a battle to avoid slipping into League Two. The Royals will be low on confidence at the moment, especially after their loss at home to Fleetwood Town last time out.
“As for Portsmouth, they have been very impressive so far this season under John Mousinho. They weren’t able to beat Cambridge United in their last outing so will be looking to get all three points this weekend.
“Pompey haven’t lost yet this term and I expect that trend to continue on Saturday.”
