‘Basic errors’, ‘4/10’ – Local media critical of Leeds United star after Stoke City defeat

Leeds United lost 1-0 away at Stoke City in the Championship last night.

Leeds United had a frustrating night at the bet365 Stadium, losing 1-0 to Alex Neil’s Stoke City thanks to a Pascal Struijk own goal in the 80th minute.

Daniel Farke’s side remain in 3rd place of the Championship table with last night’s defeat ending a run of three-straight wins in the league.

Last night’s performance wasn’t a poor one. But there were certainly some poor individual performances, with one of them coming from youngster Archie Gray.

The 17-year-old played the full 90 minutes at right-back but struggled to keep up with the pace of the game. Leeds Live rated his performance 4/10, with journalist Beren Cross adding:

“An evening that followed a similar pattern to Saturday’s. Doesn’t look like he’s 100 per cent. Basic errors, misplaced passes, lapses in concentration and poor decision-making left him in bother.”

Gray’s recent dip in form comes after the youngster played three full games for England’s U19s in the space of just six days during the October international break.

A rest needed?

Gray has played a tonne of football so far this season, and his performance last night suggested that he’s in need of a bit of rest.

Farke was critical of youth international football following Gray’s return, but he’s since played him for 90 minutes in two more Championship games; much to the surprise of many.

It seems like Farke needs to give Gray a rest to that he can get back to the form he was showing earlier in the season.

It’s easy to forget how young he is because of how good he is, and if Farke can rest him for one game then it should do Gray a world of good going forward.

Leeds play Huddersfield Town in the Champiosnhip this weekend.
