Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday: 5 players who could dictate the game tonight

Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday takes place at Home Park tonight with both sides determined to claim all three points.

Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday sees two of this season’s promoted sides battle it out for a much-needed victory.

The hosts sit 21st in the Championship table, just above the relegation zone. Sheffield Wednesday are right at the bottom of the pile without a win to their name, but new boss Danny Rohl will be hoping to put that right.

All three of the Pilgrims’ victories have come on home soil, so they’ll be hopeful of winning a first game in four here.

Before tonight’s game, we take a look at five players who could dictate Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday

Morgan Whittaker

Whittaker has been an essential player for the Pilgrims since his permanent return in the summer. His total of four goals and three assists is only bettered by Ryan Hardie and the danger he offers on the right-hand side could cause heaps of problems for a leaky Sheffield Wednesday backline.

Barry Bannan

When Wednesday are on their game, Bannan is often central to their success.

We’re yet to see the best of the Scottish maestro this season amid the Owls’ struggles but if they’re to get anything from this game, the diminutive playmaker could have an influential role to play.

Who is the current manager of Leicester City?

Michael Cooper

After a successful return to action at the weekend, goalkeeper Cooper will be keen to remind everyone why he’s arguably Plymouth Argyle’s most important player. He was on the sidelines for a long time but the 24-year-old cemented himself as League One’s best goalkeeper before the Pilgrims’ promotion.

Anthony Musaba

Musaba has looked like a lively addition to Wednesday’s attacking ranks since his arrival. Against a team with attack-minded full-backs, the Dutchman could find some success tonight.

His withdrawal just after the hour-mark at the weekend could mean he’s in line for another start too.

Ryan Hardie

Last but not least is Hardie, who has come under fire a bit from Plymouth fans this season. He’s managed to notch five goals and three assists in his 12 Championship outings though, a decent return for a team with only three wins to their name.

If he’s started as the lone striker again, the chances created will likely fall to him. If he can take them, he could get a couple of goals here.

Plymouth Argyle vs Sheffield Wednesday kicks off at 19:45 tonight and is available to watch on the Sky Sports Red Button.
