New update emerges on Blackburn Rovers man’s injury concern after return vs Millwall

Blackburn Rovers boss Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed the decision to substitute Andy Moran was ‘purely tactical’ amid concerns he had suffered a new injury.

Blackburn Rovers made it three wins in a row in Tuesday night, beating Millwall 2-1 away from home. Goals from Joe Rankin-Costello and Callum Brittain were enough to get the visitors over the line, lifting them to 10th in the Championship table for the time being.

A couple of concerns did emerge from the tie though, one being regarding loan man Moran. He was making his return to action after picking up an injury over the international break and after coming on at half-time, the Irishman made way for Niall Ennis in the latter stages while receiving treatment.

Understandably, that led to some concerns among Blackburn Rovers fans of a fresh blow for the loan talent.

Now though, as quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph, Rovers boss Tomasson has confirmed he has not picked up a new blow. The change was ‘purely tactical’, ensuring his side weren’t a man down while defending the corner. He said:

“Andy was purely tactical because he was getting treatment and I didn’t want to have one less on the corner.

“That was the reason, just to take him out. I had someone else planned but it changed quickly, we didn’t want to be short for the corner.”

A reassuring update

After making his return against Millwall, it would’ve been a real blow had Moran picked up a new concern. His ability to play in a range of attacking roles and creative threat makes him helpful asset for Tomasson and given some of the injuries Blackburn Rovers are dealing with, adding another to the pile wouldn’t have been ideal.

Moran is still looking for his first goal or assist in the Championship but he has put in some eye-catching displays for Blackburn. The highlight of his Ewood Park stint to date was the EFL Cup win over Cardiff City, in which he notched two goals and two assists in a 5-2 win.

Unfortunately, his injury picked up with the Republic of Ireland saw him miss the league fixture against the Bluebirds. He’ll have his eyes on opening his Championship account soon though after avoiding re-injury last night.
