‘8/10’ – Middlesbrough star ‘should not go unnoticed’ after another impressive display vs Norwich City

Middlesbrough made it six consecutive Championship wins on Tuesday night, defeating Norwich City 2-1 away from home.

Middlesbrough and Norwich City went into the break with the scores level but forward Sam Greenwood netted shortly after the restart to give Boro the lead. Josh Coburn played in the Leeds United loanee after the Canaries had conceded possession, setting up Greenwood for a close-range finish.

Sammy Silvera came off the bench to net a second late on before Jonathan Rowe scored a consolation for the hosts in the 99th minute, ending the game 2-1.

It means Middlesbrough have now risen to 7th for the time being after extending their winning run to six. And following the game, goalscorer Greenwood was one who received high praise.

Teesside Live rated his performance as an 8/10, with writer Craig Johns highlighting his effort as something that ‘should not go unnoticed’ after a ‘lively’ display. He said:

“Lively and penetrative throughout, he scored what looked like being the only goal until stoppage time drama. Not just is goal though, the amount of effort Greenwood put in for his side in this one, supporting Engel throughout down that left, should not go unnoticed.”

Gaining momentum with Boro…

Greenwood had to wait until the Cardiff City victory at the start of this month for his first Championship start with Middlesbrough. He’s now started the last four games in a row though and his goal against Norwich City makes it two in his last three for Michael Carrick’s side.

The 21-year-old looks to be making that spot on the left-hand side his own and another well-rounded display last night should only strengthen his grip on a place in the team.

Greenwood has shown his ability as either a winger or attacking midfielder but as Johns noted, his support of left-back Engel saw him really impress while maintain his threat going forward too.

He’s emerging as a player who could become key for Middlesbrough and he’ll be hopeful of continuing his impressive form against Stoke City this weekend.
