QPR in advanced talks over new deal for Ainsworth favourite

QPR are in ‘advanced talks’ over a new deal for youngster Sinclair Armstrong, reports TEAMtalk.

QPR have seen Armstrong, 20, emerge as a key player this season, with the Irishman having played a part in all 11 of his side’s Championship fixtures this season, scoring one and assisting two.

Armstrong sees his current contract expire at the end of this season and a new deal has seemingly been in the pipelines for a while now.

And TEAMtalk are now reporting that talks are progressing well, and that QPR and Armstrong are now in advanced talks over a new long-term contract for the powerful attacker.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side currently sit in 22nd place of the Championship table after a poor season so far; the R’s have won just two games all season and lost their last three going into this month’s break.

The QPR boss is a huge admirer of Armstrong’s, having previously backed him to make it all the way to the Premier League, saying:

“I’ve been super impressed. Since I walked in the door I’ve known this boy has some of the key attributes required to be a top, top striker. I believe he’ll play in the Premier League.”

QPR eyeing new deal for Armstrong

Despite the poor results on the pitch, a new deal for Armstrong is a positive for QPR.

We may yet have seen the best of the player too; Ainsworth seems intent on using Armstrong as something of a brute force in attack, rather than a striker who can necessarily score goals, and so under a different manager we could see even more from the youngster.

But having Armstrong around for the long-term can only be a positive for QPR who have some other key players out of contract at the end of this season, which could well end in relegation.

The R’s return to action vs Huddersfield Town later this month.
