Charlton Athletic receive selection boost ahead of Shrewsbury Town trip

Charlton Athletic boss Michael Appleton has said Terry Taylor will be ‘available’ this weekend.

Charlton Athletic are back in action on Saturday with an away trip to Shrewsbury Town. The Addicks have picked up four points from their last two League One games.

Taylor, 22, sat out of their 3-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers at The Valley last time out. The club followed concussion protocols.

Appleton has provided this update to London News Online: “He had concussion symptoms after the game and went straight to hospital. It was a little bit different to Alfie (May) in terms of the protocol, in terms of his return to training.

“He will be available for the squad this weekend. He’ll definitely be with the group this week and back end of the week. As long as there are no side-effects or ill-effects from the initial injury – whether dizziness, blurred vision or whatever – then he will be fit and available.”

Charlton boost

Having Taylor back will be a big boost for Charlton as they look to pick up another result under Appleton.

They turned to the former Blackpool and Lincoln City manager after parting company with Dean Holden last month.

The Addicks are currently sat in 16th place in the league table after the first eight games and have 10 points on the board. The London outfit at six points off the play-offs.

They swooped to land Taylor over the summer from fellow third tier club Burton Albion to bolster their options in the middle of the park.

The former Wales youth international has since made six appearances in all competitions, four of which have come in the league, and he penned a long-term deal until June 2026.

He started out at Aberdeen before Wolves lured him down to England. The Scotland-born man went on to play once for the first-team at Molineux before heading out the exit door on a permanent basis when Burton Albion came calling in 2021.

Taylor then played 69 matches for the Brewers before landing a switch to Charlton.
