Aston Villa have a buy-back clause for Hull City summer signing Jaden Philogene, reports Hull Live, worth £15million. But the clause only comes into effect when the two teams are in the same league.
Hull City signed a number of new players this summer, though Philogene was the Tigers’ marquee signing.
Liam Rosenior’s side paid £5million for the 21-year-old who’s since featured twice in the Championship for his new side.
But it’s now being reported that Aston Villa inserted a buy-back clause when selling Philogene to Hull City, with Hull’s vice-chairman Tan Kesler disclosing the information.
As outlined by Hull Live, Villa have ‘first refusal to buy Philogene’ for a fixed fee of £15million should Hull City win promotion to the Premier League, with the buy-back clause ‘only coming into effect when the two clubs are in the same division’.
Hull currently sit in 6th place of the Championship table and are unbeaten since the opening day of the season, drawing 0-0 with Yorkshire rivals Leeds United in their last outing.
Philogene at Hull City
Philogene looks like a very promising signing. Hull would’ve done their due diligence before signing the player and under a very well-regarded coach in Rosenior, he could well prevail in the Championship.
And the Tigers could yet earn promotion. They’ve started the season well and look like definite top six contenders, so Villa could yet have a decision to make on Philogene.
If the attacker can fire Hull to promotion this season then it will certainly give Villa food for thought. For the time being though, he remains a Hull player and he’s got a bit to prove this season after Hull spent well to bring him in.
