Shock twist emerges on Swansea City man who was poised for a move away this summer

Swansea City striker Joel Piroe is set to stay at the club this summer amid reports linking him elsewhere, as per Wales Online.

Piroe, 23, scored 19 and assisted another two in 43 Championship appearances last season.

The Dutch striker has now registered two very strong campaigns in the second tier since joining the Welsh club from PSV in 2021.

Swansea City finished 10th in the second tier last season. The Swans weren’t far off a top six finish at all, but Russell Martin’s men came up just lacking last time around.

Piroe has been linked with a move all summer, but following reports that Piroe was happy to see out this season in Wales, it has now been claimed by Wales Online that unless Swansea City are prepared to adjust their desired structure of a deal then the 23-year-old will stay at the club beyond this window.

A short term boost

Michael Duff is the new man at the helm of Swansea City now and the former Barnsley boss is tasked with following on from Martin’s good work at the club in recent times.

Having Piroe as an option certainly helps Duff’s chances of success this coming season with the Dutch forward a natural finisher at this level.

Whilst circumstances can change the only negative to this is it would mean that Piroe would leave on a free next summer unless the striker opts to sign a new deal with Swansea City.

It remains to be seen what this saga holds in the future, but it will be hoped that whatever happens it doesn’t negatively impact the club’s chances of success this coming campaign.

Swansea City begin their new season with a clash against Birmingham City this Saturday at home.
