‘In contention’ – How will Notts County fare in the 2023/24 League Two season? Prediction

Notts County will be hoping to continue their momentum as they return to the football league following their promotion from the fifth tier.

Notts County finished 2nd in the National League last season. Despite ending on 107 points they missed out on winning the title and instead had to go up through the play-offs.

Luke Williams’ side played arguably the best football in the fifth tier last season and they aren’t resting on their recent success with the transfer window this summer proving another opportunity for the Magpies to strengthen.

Here some of our writers predict how Notts County will fare in their League Two return this coming season…

Thomas Kelly-Hansford

“Williams’ side were a joy to watch last season. The style of play was a cut above National League level and without any summer additions I wouldn’t have them in any danger in League Two.

“But, they’ve made several quality signings in the likes of David McGoldrick, Jodi Jones and Dan Crowley. League Two can be a difficult division to sustain a play-off push in but I do believe they could be in contention for two promotions in two seasons.

“It may be too far fetched to have them comfortably in the automatic positions this season, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they were there or thereabouts. However, to ere on the side of caution I will predict Notts County to finish in back-to-back play-off places.”

Harry Mail

“Notts County play a certain way under Luke Williams and could be a force to be reckoned with in League Two. I think they will adapt to the step up a division with ease, just like Stockport County did last season.

“It will be interesting to see how Macaulay Langstaff does next term after scoring 42 goals in all competitions in the last campaign. The Magpies have also further boosted their attacking options with the addition of David McGoldrick, which is arguably the signing of the summer in the fourth tier.

“Notts County are strong and I think they will get in the top seven. Time will tell whether or not they have enough to sneak into the top three at this stage.”
