Ex-Sunderland and Coventry City defender Jordan Willis is currently on trial at League One side Shrewsbury Town.
Willis, 28, joined Sunderland back in 2019 and appeared regularly for the Black Cats in League One. The central defender was a star performer for Sunderland during what was a tough period for the club and the season after suffered a major setback.
He suffered a serious injury in 2021 which limited his season to just 19 outings in all competitions and saw him sidelined from senior football for almost two years.
His next appearance wouldn’t come until last season when he briefly signed for Wycombe Wanderers in the third tier. He played nine times and was released earlier this summer.
Now, on the lookout for a new team, Willis has been spotted as the trialist in the Salop’s recent pre-season friendly against Stourbridge.

An exciting prospect
Willis is a top level League One defender at his best. The 28-year-old is a safe pair of hands to have in your backline and his experience in both the third tier and the second tier would make him very handy for a side like Shrewsbury Town to have this upcoming season.
The Salop are looking to push towards the top six in League One and the recent arrival of Joe Anderson on loan from Sunderland shows they’ve already bolstered their backline.
If Willis does enough to earn himself a deal at the League One side he has potential to become a frequent starter at the club as he searches for consistent senior game time for the first time since the start of 2021.
It may take time for Willis to find his feet again, but it shouldn’t be understated what someone like Willis could bring to the dressing room. This could be a smart signing both on and off the field for Shrewsbury Town.
